WHAT WE BELIEVE

1. THE BIBLE

We believe the Bible is the Word of God preserved for us in the Greek Received Text. We believe the Holy
Scriptures to be the verbal plenary inspired Words of God. It is inerrant, infallible and God-breathed, and is
therefore our supreme and final authority in matters of faith and practice. We believe that the King James Version is God’s preserved Word for the English speaking people and is the only translation to be used by preachers, teachers and officers in the public ministry of Immanuel Baptist Church. (II Timothy 3:15-17; II Peter 1:20-21; John 5:39; 17:17)

2. GOD

We believe that there is one, and only one, true and living God, and that He is omnipotent, omniscient,
omnipresent, immutable, and infinitely holy. We believe that God eternally exists in Three Persons (Father, Son
and Holy Spirit) and that these three (Trinity), though one, are yet Three Distinct Persons. Each is co-eternal in
being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections. (Gen.1:26-27; Deut. 6:4; Matt. 3:13-17; 28:19; John 10:30; I Cor. 8:6; Eph. 4:6; Col. 2:9; I John 5:7)

3. JESUS CHRIST

We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son, who became man, without ceasing to be God, and was
conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary in order that he might redeem sinful man. Thus, we
believe in His miraculous birth, His sinless life, and that He made atonement for the sins of the world by His
death. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into heaven, His perpetual intercession for His people, His pre-tribulation rapture and His personal, visible, pre-millennial return to the world according to His promise. (Is. 7:14; 9:6; Lk 1:35; Jn 1:1-2, 14; 2 Cor. 5:19-21; Gal. 4:4-5; Phil. 2:5-8)

4. SALVATION

We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus’ precious blood has washed away all our sins and that we have been completely forgiven. We believe that salvation is wholly by the grace of God and is received by our faith in Jesus. We believe that salvation is a free gift and cannot be obtained by any good works or deeds of man. We believe that once a sinner is saved that there will be signs of repentance (a turning from sin and a change of lifestyle) in their life. (John 1:12; 5:24; 10:28-19; Eph. 1:7; 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; I Peter 1:18-19; I John 1:9)

5. ETERNAL SECURITY

We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are secure in Christ forever. (John 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1, 38-39; Eph. 1:13; 4:30; I Peter 1:4-5)

6. CHRISTIAN LIVING

We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner so as not to bring reproach upon their Saviour. God commands that His people be separate from all religious apostasy, all worldly pleasures, practices, and
associations. We are to look, act and be like Christians every moment of every day. (Rom. 12:1-2; 2 Cor. 6:14-
7:1; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; I John 2:15-17; I Peter 1:15-16)

7. CHRIST'S RETURN

We believe in the personal, imminent return of Christ. We believe that He will rapture the church prior to
the 7 years tribulation period. At the end of the tribulation, Christ will personally and visibly return with His
saints, to establish His earthly Kingdom which was promised to the nation of Israel. (Ps. 89:3-4; Daniel 2:31-45; Zech. 14:4-11; I Cor. 15:52-58; I Thess. 1:10; 4:13-18; Rev. 19:11-16; 20:1-6)

8. ETERNAL DESTINY

We believe that the soul of every man goes to one of two places after death – Heaven or Hell. We believe
in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting
punishment. (Matt. 25:46; Luke 16:19-31; John 5:28-29; 11:25-26; Rev. 20:5-6, 12-13)

9. CREATION

We believe that God created the universe in 6 literal, 24-hour days. We believe that all animal and plant life was made directly by God and that they follow God’s law in multiplying after their kind. We believe that human life is from one man and one woman (Adam & Eve) who were created directly in God’s image and after His likeness. We reject evolution and do not believe that man evolved from any lower form of life. (Gen. 1-2; 5:2; Ex. 20:11; 31:17)

10. MARRIAGE AND MORALITY

We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. We believe that God
disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance. We further believe that marriage is the joining of one man and one woman for life. (Gen. 2:18-24; 19:5, 13; 26:8-9; Rom. 1:26-29; I Cor. 5:1; 6:9-10; Eph. 5:22-23; 1 Thess. 4:1-8)
